This is a must have in our books! My cousin told me about activity tables for Daycares. I thought, "Why in the world would I buy 2 high chairs if I could have one of those?!" I checked the price and those things sell for $300+, which is not in our high chair budget. Plus I would want something to accommodate the whole family at mealtime. I decided to make one instead for a fraction of the price. I found replacement seats for the table online (pkg of 6 chairs for $16.99 and pkg of 2 belts for $2.99 on elitedeals.com) and had Jared cut holes in our free Ikea table. We figure we can invest in a new table when the babies are bigger. In the meantime, we will make wood fillers for the holes when we have company over. The table/chairs are good for kids up to 24+ months.
The table rocks! When the chairs are turned facing out, we can feed the babies easily when they are infants. Jared is demonstrating our plan at 1:00AM when we finished the job. We were so excited for the next morning's feed.
The chairs can be rotated to face inward, as Jared is demonstrating.
When the chairs are inward, the babies can use this as an activity table with toys or later, coloring/playdo/painting/crafts OR for eating together as a family. Our home is soooo small that this fits our space perfectly!

Feeding twins at the same time is a circus act! This table has improved our efficiency and the babies love it! The babies just turned 6 months in these pictures and we began the weaning process, which means more mess with solids. The chairs come out easily and I can rinse them out in the sink...seriously, brilliant!
We haven't implemented the "No Feet on Table" rule yet.
Here is a video of Jared feeding the babies at the table. They are not buckled in so they are all over the place.
FYI Since we got a shipment of 6 chairs, we plan to make 2 swings out of the extra chairs so the babies can both enjoy swinging outside at the same time. Not sure what we will do with the final 2 chairs???

As a mom of twins, I am speechless!!!! Beyond brilliant!! Mine are now two and, gosh, what I would have done for that table!
This is just awesome! I would have loved to have this for my twins at that age AND I do have space. Brilliant!
seriously - you guys should sell plans for this or something - it's a GREAT idea!! would've loved one when mine were smaller! it cracks me up how both of them have that one foot up too :-) very cute!
What a great idea. I LOVE the photo with their feet on the table. So precious.
My girls are 4 months this week and I can promise you we'll be making this table ASAP! Thank you so much for the idea!
could you provide a direct link to the item you bought? I'm having a hard time finding it on elite deals :(
My twins are just about at the age for high chairs. This would be much better for our family then two high chairs. You should start selling these. If you have the plans I would love to try making one of these myself.
Oh, my goodness, my twins are 6 months and I want to do it! Where are you located? Any interest in selling your remaining 2 chairs? I'm in Oregon. If you do want to pawn them off on a fellow twin-mom, you can contact me through my website www.skyepixton.com.
great idea.
You can also buy the seats from School Outfitters.

That's where we bought ours seats from 3 years ago.
They are the cheapest on Elite Deals. I checked out tons of sites and the seats are ALL marked up like crazy.
Pack of 6 for $16.99:

Elite Deals also has the cheapest
belts than all the other websites:
Pack of 2 for $1.95 (current sale)

Though I would rather make one if I had time that snaps like a stroller belt.
I wish I had thought of this for my twins. What a great idea! We did forego my older daughter's solid wood highchair for two stackable, plastic ones from IKEA and that's worked pretty well. But still, this is just awesome.
ingenious! found you through ikea hacks and i can't believe how amazing this is. i only have one baby, but i'd like to strap her into a table rather than buy a high chair!
That's awesome! My twins try to rest their feet on the table too.
is that a battle of the boulevard t-shirt????
go bruins.
How intelligent to feed them naked, then you can put them directly into the tub for a little cleanup!

Just stumbled on your high chair table and it's fantastic! Cost effective? Check! Great use of space? Check! Meets ALL functional requirements? Double-check!!
Seriously, I'm terribly impressed. I wish I had friends with twins just so I could make of these for them.
That is awesome!! I love this idea!!

AWESOME IDEA!!! I am also a mom of twins and would have LOVED to have this. What ingenuity! Great thinking. Love it :)
very cool.
I love how the sit w/ their feet up when eating/ taking a bottle.
i am amazed! clapping!
That is awesome! My husband and I are trying to build one. You said you bought a pack of 6 activity chairs. Did you use all of them? Are you willing to sell two my way? Let me know! Thanks!!
What a great idea.... and thank you so much for posting it!!! My daughter has twins and a small kitchen space - this would work so well for them. Brilliant!!!
I like it very much!
Glad to hear NVPOM is still up and running...a past president here. If twin grandbabies are ever in my future, I'll get out the tools myself to make one of these! Congrats to you both!!
Love you blog. Great idea.
This is awesome! I am expecting twins now. But it looks like the replacement seat has increased A LOT! (They are now selling six seats for $98.95!) With that cost increase, two high chairs is probably quite a bit cheaper. Which makes me sad, because I'd love to have something like this.
Those replacement seats have gone up a bit, but if you are wanting just two, I still think it would be cheaper than a highchair to purchase these and still do the hack:

Ditto....the very same replacement seats at elitedeals sell for $98.95 now Item #: MCT-6PKPLAYANDFEED. The link in earlier comments above still works but the price is not the same. BOO HOO. Cheapest I've found is around $24-$25 *each* such as http://www.furniture-4kids.com/rese.html and https://www.schooloutfitters.com/catalog/product_family_info/cPath/CAT5_CAT279/pfam_id/PFAM5087
I hope to make one for a friend who just had twins! If anyone knows of anything cheaper, let us know!!
Still an amazing idea! Love it!
Here's another for $22.95 http://www.schoolsin.com/TOD-SEAT.html
I wish someone would have shown me this idea 31 years ago when I had my twins. I would have made one of these ASAP...but believe me life does get easier as they get older. good luck with your twins...
Do you have those extra seats that you are willing to part with? We have twin boys and I am trying to find the parts so my Dad can build this for us!
